Sepsis Awareness Month 2021

Sepsis Awareness Month in September and World Sepsis Day on the 13th are now just weeks away so you won’t be surprised to hear that the team has been hard at work putting together our plans.

This year’s campaign will look a little different from previous years and we have a brand new logo and visuals that we are excited to show you in next month’s newsletter.

We will be working as hard as ever to use the month to spread awareness of sepsis as a condition and to make as many people as possible aware of the five key symptoms so that they know when to seek urgent medical attention.

We will be staging a World Sepsis Day launch event with speakers from research, the media, and the Scottish Government on Thursday, September 9th.  (To pre-register click here)

And this year we will also be focussing on what makes Sepsis Research FEAT unique in the UK – the world-leading GenOMICC research that we fund.

As you probably know our fundraising as a charity has two end goals – to stage awareness-raising campaigns amongst the public and clinicians and to fund research – primarily the GenOMICC study which has made such a difference in the UK and globally during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Research and awareness activities are expensive though – £43 pays for the collection, storage, and genotyping of just one sample of DNA from a patient in an ICU. £100 pays for the placement of printed awareness materials in one GP surgery for a year.

So what could you do to support our fundraising during Sepsis Awareness Month 2021?

More than anything this September we are asking you to spread the word – by word of mouth, by email, via your social media channels (remember to tag us #sepsisresearchfeat and #sepsisawarenessmonth2021). You could maybe share a short 30-second video about your reasons for supporting Sepsis Research FEAT? Or you could book a talk for your community group or business, delivered by one of our trained volunteers in person or online – email us for more information.

Sepsis Awareness month is also a great time to fundraise. Perhaps a sporting or fitness challenge, a bake sale or afternoon tea, some cocktail mixology, a BBQ get-together with friends, a quiz, or an auction of promises? You could set up a Facebook Birthday fundraiser or simply donate to our dedicated Visufund or JustGiving pages.

In-person or virtually, on your own or as a team, whatever you are planning to do in September, could you do it for Sepsis Research FEAT?

Get those thinking caps on and start sharing your plans with us in August – we would love to hear from you.
