World Clinical Trials Day

Thursday 20th May was World Clinical Trials Day and we were delighted that a piece put out by our PR consultant was picked up by various papers and online publications across the UK.

Publications including the London Evening Standard, Yahoo News, The Northern and Southern Daily Echo, News Chain Online, and others across Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland carried a story expressing our thanks to the patients and NHS staff who made such an invaluable contribution to the GenOMICC study during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Between March 2020 and March 2021 some 11,000 patients in 212 ICUs across the UK, with the support of their families and facilitated by NHS staff, donated samples of DNA to the GenOMICC study at the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute.

This exponential increase in samples massively accelerated the progress of the study as it pivoted from sepsis to COVID-19. It helped to facilitate findings made by the research team in the autumn of 2020, providing a better understanding of why some people were becoming critically ill whilst others were not.
It also helped the team to identify existing drugs that could be repurposed in the treatment of this emerging illness.

We were delighted to be able to support GenOMICC at such a crucial time and to have the chance on World Clinical Trials Day to thank those 11,000 patients, their families, and NHS staff for their help in establishing what are undoubtedly hugely important scientific findings.
