News today from the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute, that its pioneering GenOMICC study has now recruited its 40,000th patient.
An early funder of this world leading project, Sepsis Research FEAT remains a committed partner in GenOMICC, which looks at genetic susceptibility to, and diagnosis and treatment of, sepsis. Since collaboration began in 2018, the study has grown to become one of the largest-recruiting of its kind in the world – taking DNA samples from patients in critical care, in collaboration with hospitals across the UK and globally. The work offers huge promise for improved outcomes for sepsis patients worldwide.
The recruitment of its 40,000th patient sample marks a pivotal moment for GenOMICC. Study lead, Professor Kenneth Baillie, commented, “This is an extraordinary milestone that reflects the commitment of research teams, and the generosity of critically ill patients and their relatives, across the whole world. We would never have got here without the timely support of Sepsis Research FEAT – without question, they made this study what it is today – the largest consented critical care research study ever conducted.”
Sepsis Research FEAT is delighted to see this achievement and offers its warm congratulations to the whole GenOMICC team. The charity looks forward to supporting further progress in the months and years to come.
